Imagine this...You have never met your boyfriend's family...never met his Mom...only met his Dad once...and now you are going to spend the day with his Mom, Dad, Sister, 3 uncles, 3 aunts, 3 cousins AND they all are going to be dressed up in Goofy Christmas clothes.
No...we are not all crazy...just when we get together because you see... (well maybe my brother Mitch and I are).
Today was the 2nd Annual McCann Family Italian Christmas... complete with gag gifts and a Christmas outfit contest. The outfits were supposed to make us look older than we are...mission accomplished.
I am bottom right in the photo with my table cloth shirt...Uncle Bill (age 60) bottom left who makes old look like fun...Rachel...the new girl to the family by my son Jake and hs Mom, Robyn on the left upper row and my daughter Jaime in the middle front row between my sister Mindy and brother Mitch.
No TV...No radio...No Alcohol..NO need to be texting or on an Ipod or laptop of iphone or any of that...just laughter at each other and our outfits.
While the food was great...so was the time with family. from the sister who called from a hundred miles away and thought we were eating an hour later than we were (and she had the Rocket Pizza)...to my son, Jake, who was the last one here with his girlfriend...and he lives 3 miles away.
In fairness...with college out for break..his girlfriend did have to drive 55 miles to get here so she gets one mulligan...but my son? I know what he was doing last night and it wasn't baking cookies.
Rachel promised she would come back again...we will wait and see if that is true as if we did not scare her off today...nothing will.
By the way...sister Mindy did make it on time and the pizza was done only 5 minutes behind schedule.
Too much food...too many sweets...and too short of time...but man was it fun.
And it sure didn't hurt that it was about 60 degrees out instead of the normal high of 40!!!
Quality time with family...make the call and get something set up and have everyone bring one dish and 1 dessert and you will have plenty! Leave the past headaches in the past and make new memories...go do it!!
