A Good Lens Makes for a Good PhotoCoast Guard Plane

Continuing my efforts with the 400mm lens, experimenting to see what settings work best, this plane few over while I was at Balboa Park shooting some of the architectural building details and I was ready, except that I had to tip the tripod and the lens because there was no time for ajustment. I was balancing the tripod on one leg.

What is amazing is that this photo is as clear as it is and shows very little sign of movement of the lens. I held my breath and it looked ok after the shot but seeing it on the computer I was more than pleased with the clarity. This shot was just pure dumb luck.

I intend to take a day off soon and visit the San Diego Safari Park again in hopes of capturing some wonderful new faces there. With the powerful new lens, I fully expect to capture some new photos with more detail to share here in the Rain.

Hi Lynda, I am blessed to live in San Diego and  to have so much opportunity with so many different subjects.

Hi Susan, Many times I wonder if I actually do know all of what I need to know. It takes years and years to hone the skills of good photography. But I am a work in progress if I can just get out more often but work always has to come first.

Hi Mona, One of the interesting and challenging things about photography is that despite what you see on the view panel, what you actually have that is usable is very often a disappointment. It is really not until you start to see on a large screen what you have if it has any value to keep. Good light is essential along with options in equipment for the best possibility. But trust me, the results  are not always positive. There are so many things to consider and you have to give it your best effort ( along with continual learning ) and hope that there is something usable. But you are very kind and I so appreciate your encouragment.

Hi Fred, It was set to the fastest possible. Thank you so much. I also find it ever facinating how all this works. It would have been even more interesting if the shutter was slowed down and the the whirl of the blades of the propellers was captured as motion. I never even thouught of it until you mentioned it.

Hi Keith,

Thank you, it really isn't such an important photo but I thought it would be fun to share my results of the long lens. So far I am pleased with the clarity and the details I am getting. It does require a lot of strong light and I haven't tried this late day or early evening.

Hi Debra, I am actually excited about getting some good shots but not so much so about carrying all this stuff. I feel like I need to work out more so it is not such a heavy load to carry.

What a clarity and ahrpness. You spend the money, but you are not the only one who does it. But you are one of those who really get the results with the fancy stuff you have. The photo is stunning. And the speed is impressive, you can see the blades.

Very impressive

Hi Jon, I know from your camera, while it is expensive, your shorts are extraordinary and show that the investment is so worth the results you get. I love your photos. I still haven't done much video as yet and want to get into having represntative videos to show more of San Diego. Thank You so much for your wonderful compliment.

Hi Debra, Sometimes it makes me laugh. Every event is like a major ordeal and when I go to the animal parks, I feel llike I am on a workout because as you can imagine, it is not a flat walking surface. Getting up and down the hills, makes me sometimes consider skipping parts and then having to remind myself why I am there.

Hi Laura, Thank You, I was not sure I was going to get anything by tipping the tripod to get the lens up. I tried anyway and it was just lucky I was using a fast shutter.
