Performing miracles is all in a day's work for JoAnn Falletta

One of my favorite conductors is JoAnn Falletta.  Of course, she is the favorite of others, as well.  The New York Times, for example, called her ". . . one of the finest conductors of her generation."  So, why am I enthralled?  Well, for one, she has performed here in Summit County the last two years as guest conductor of the National Repertory Orchestra.  And she keeps you alive, you audience members.  For some of us, you actually have her to thank for being alive days after her concerts are over.

She is sharp, excitingly knowledgeable, animated, and in control.  Her waves, nods and 'pouding of air' bring the most fantastic results from a group of college kids, masters level musicians brought here from around the country to learn and perform for the summer.  And learn they do.  Their concert last night, conducted by JoAnn, included three very complex pieces.  And she told me at the reception following that they had only three days to go from "here is what we are going to play" to putting on the most amazing performances one could imagine.

She is truly wonderful.  And Summit County is incredibly lucky to have such talent visit on a regular basis.  But, heck, this has got to be better than Buffalo, New York this time of year.  So, JoAnn, enjoy your stay.  Stay as long as you like.  You will love it - and we will continue to love you.
