Tragedy, racism and a circus: the death of Trayvon Martyr Martin
Editor’s note for those outside of our little part of America: Trayvon Martin was a 17-year-old young black man when he was shot and killed by George Zimmerman, a Hispanic man.
I hate this Trayvon Martin story….hate it, hate it, hate it- for it’s a story filled with nothing but losers. Death crowns no victors save the one(s) who’ve gone home to see the face of Jesus- and the circumstances surrounding Trayvon Martin’s death are known but to George Zimmerman and the Lord.
But was race an issue in Trayvon‘s death at all? Not sure- but it’s surely been an issue ever since. Word to the Martin family and others: young Trayvon’s death is a tragedy regardless the means by which he met his untimely end. But I’ve seen no evidence making Trayvon Martin our generation’s Emmett Till.

Everyone wants a thorough investigation of the events leading up to Trayvon Martin’s death, myself included. Everyone wants to see justice here. His family and his memory deserve that first and foremost, followed by a general public that deserves to have faith in its judicial system from the beat cops to the nine robed justices in D.C.
The differences, then? “Justice” to many means “George Zimmerman is in jail“. Seems many who hail from a community sick and tired of it’s men being hauled off to jail without probable cause have forgotten how wrong that is- and instead insist on Zimmerman‘s arrest despite the Sanford Police Department’s insistence that they don’t yet have that cause.
Let us not forget that George Zimmerman has rights, too.

Racism and the circus… There have been a number of protests aimed at the Sanford Police- and one led by Mikhail Muhammad, southern regional minister of the New Black Panther Party. Say what you will about the group’s intentions here- but the Southern Poverty Law Center calls them a hate group: “The New Black Panther Party is a virulently racist and anti-Semitic organization whose leaders have encouraged violence against whites, Jews and law enforcement officers.” Enough said, SPLC.
A group called The New Black Liberation Militia has entered the fray as well, and they’re vowing to exercise their own brand of vigilante justice by trekking this way to hunt Zimmerman down and take him to jail. Leader Najee Muhammad‘s comment that “We’ll find him. We’ve got his mug shot and everything” surely does Roy Bryant and J. W. Milam more justice than it does Trayvon Martin.

Lastly, we arrive at Al Sharpton- race-baiting, incendiary, convicted slanderer and hoaxster Al Sharpton, that is. He has thrown himself into this equation as well, with a rally planned for Thursday at the First Shiloh Baptist Church.
More words to Trayvon Martin’s family and their true supporters: In the pursuit of truth, you’ve opened both your lives and Trayvon’s death to the world- in an effort to draw support, comfort, healing and yes, justice. Don’t let Al “Tawana Brawley” Sharpton join you in that pursuit- he carries too much baggage.
May God bless Trayvon Martin- my hopes are that he’s already learned to fly high above us as he longed to do while he was down here. And may God bless the Sanford Police Department, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and the State of Florida’s attorneys as they do their best in bringing justice to all concerned.
