Geraniums were my mother’s favorite flowers. And, one of my favorite’s as well. Did you know that geraniums unlike many annual flowers have the ability to survive for most of the winter. If properly stored, they can resist extended dry periods due to their thick, succulent-like stems.
Well every fall, I take my geraniums indoors and keep them in the garage. They actually do quite well in the garage, and a couple of times during then winter, I water them just a bit and remove any dead stems from the pots.
I have five geranium pots that we have kept in the garage this winter. Since the beginning of March, my husband has put them outside during the day to enjoy the beautiful sunshine. They seem to be very healthy! At night, we bring them indoors for fear of frost. Hopefully in April we can leave them outside and enjoy their colorful blooms all summer.
After being indoors all winter, the geraniums seem to be doing great. I was so excited when I came home from church today. I found a red bud on one of the geraniums!
I love Spring, watching the new growth of plants, the grass getting green, and the trees come alive with their new leaves...just amazing!
