That is what Anne Leonard of Needham, MA said when 25 members of the Irish Village Soccer Club did over her roof. You may remember I wrote about this woman who have come on some really bad times and her home was in need of much repair. The worst thing about her house was the leaking roof. The men as you can from the picture below did work on the roof. They will have one more Saturday to finish the work they have started. *see Homeless in Needham blog
The Irish Village Soccer Club actually raised $4,000. The owner was able to replace her refrigerator and get some groceries and get light fixtures fixed.
A gentleman named Greg Hickey who operates a website which serves as a database for local contractors also contributed to the effort: http://www.ratemycarpenter.com
Mr. Hickey was contacted by Bill Paulson, the Rotary Club member who brought a fully decorated Christmas tree to Mrs. Leonard. The workers repaired her ceiling and replaced the floor in the bathroom. The work is not complete but these guys must be filled with joy to know that they what they have done for this woman. This is what a little kindness can do for someone who could have despaired and been on the street without a home at all. Mrs. Leonard said, "Believe me they were absolutely phenomenal. This is what warms my heart. I promised to give updates and this is the first.
All this happened because someone cared enough to make sure that this lady had a working smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector who is a member of the Rotary Club of Needham was the installer. The Rotary Club did collect some money too. I will keep you informed of any progress. The photos where taken by the Needham Hometown Weekly and I was given permission to post them here.
