Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary is a no-kill animal rescue group dedicated to protecting and improving the lives of homeless and abused animals throughout the Sacramento area. Needy animals are rescued, nurtured, and provided shelter and medical care (including spaying and neutering) before being placed in safe, loving, permanent homes.
After adoption, Happy Tails animals may be returned at any time, no questions asked. This wonderful organization is volunteer-run and the animals are kept cage-free. It is truly a wonderful place, and my parents adopted a number of cats from Happy Tails through the years. Some were kittens and others were juvenile or adult cats.
All of the pets they received from Happy Tails were happy, healthy and lived for many years. Some were kittens and others were juvenile or adult cats.
HappyTails also has dogs, but fewer than the number of cats. Take a look at their website for more information about this wonderful organization.
Adult cats (one year and older) are usually up for adoption at the Happy Tails “Patricia L. Holmes Adoption Center” located at 6001 Folsom Blvd. in East Sacramento.
Cats, kittens and often dogs are also cared for in their network of foster homes, and put up for adoption on the weekends at the PetSmart at Watt and Arden. I don't think I'd be able to foster animals, because I wouldn't ever want to give them up when it was time for them to be adopted! I'd just adopt them all.
There is a special Earth Day Adoption Drive taking place April 21 from 10 am - 2 pm, and that will be held at Extra Space Storage at 3000 B Street in East
Sacramento. I have included a copy of the poster, and if you click on it you can see a larger version.
Through their feral cat program, Happy Tails also maintains several altered, healthy feral cat colonies. These are feral cats which have been caught, neutered and released back into their colonies, where volunteers see that they are fed and watered, and given medical attention if necessary. This effort helps to solve the Sacramento area’s pet overpopulation problem and helps to control disease.
If you love animals but can't have them in your home for some reason, consider volunteering at Happy Tails and stopping in to care for, pet and play with the animals.
