A Bucket List- What a GREAT IDEA!!

By
Real Estate Agent with Five Star Real Estate

I just saw a preview for a new movie coming out.  Generally I don't pay a lot of attention to movie trailers, aMovie, Kick the Buckets I'm a confirmed NETFLIX guy. (That way people kicking the back of my seat and talking on their cell phones don't become a source of frustration for me)

But this one talked about a concept that caused my ears to stand up.  A BUCKET LIST.
The list of things you want to do before you kick the bucket.  What a great idea!  I'm thinking that I have to have one.

I've had a 'Life List' of performances/performers I really wanted to see.  I've made pretty good progress on that list, but it's probably time to update that list too.  I've already managed to put a check mark beside:

  • Itzhak Perlman
  • Crosby,Stills, Nash & Young
  • Simon and Garfunkel
  • Paul Simon (The Graceland Tour)
  • Bette Midler
  • Chicago Symphony
  • New York Philharmonic
  • Ramsey Lewis Trio
  • Chick Corea
  • B.B. King

That's a list that could goKicked bucket from normaltoilet on Flickr.com on and on.  But this whole Bucket List adds a new dimension to it.  While the brief reference in the movie trailer sounded like a MASTER TO-DO list, I'd be inclined to expand it to a: TO DO, TO SEE, TO TRAVEL TO, TO MEET... and on and on and on.

I'm thinking things like travel to Egypt and see the great pyramids, see my son perform his MAJOR SYMPHONY DEBUT (on his Bass Trombone), to travel to Europe to visit my daughter in whatever country she's living in any given year, to write books, to speak and teach and train all over the country (maybe the world), to make a Major US City tour where the 1st night is dinner in a very notable restaurant, the 2nd night is the symphony, the 3rd is either opera or ballet, the 4th is on to the next city.

Wow, and that's just off the top of my head, and doesn't include things like: live debt free, help to feed the hungry, house the homeless, make the world a more peaceful, caring place.

I have a lot of years left, so my list could be quite long, and very satisfying.  I hope your's is too!

What would you put on your Bucket List?

I'll have to give this some thought, Eric, but it could be a fun exercise.  Right now, it is getting through 2007, I will be glad to say good bye to this year and look forward to 2008.

Maybe I should have a 2008 bucket list to really narrow it down???

  • trip to Mexico for 2 weeks
  • trip to Orlando
  • meet my sp. guide
  • clean out my closets

As long as calling it a Bucket List doesn't suggest or require that you kick one at the end of 2008!  :)

New Years is a great time for bucket list.  We should  all have two buckets. A short term  bucket and long term bucket.

Good idea Mary.  I'm guessing we should look in the bucket every day to remind ourselves to LIVE EVERY DAY!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Great thoughts! - I like the majority of your stuff for my own (those that aren't personal).

Already have come up with one - An Island Christmas Next Year! (2008)

Robert, I've seen Return to Forever a couple times over the years, they are great!  Thanks.

Matthew: An Island Christmas sounds pretty good.  I'm thinking I may add a Mazatlan (favorite Mexican destination) to my list.  No copywrite on my list so feel free to cut and paste.

Happy New Year!

Eric, I have my "bucket list" or life list hanging next to my desk and check it out every once in a while to stay on track with my important dreams and goals.  I've also created a list of 100+ interesting and exciting things that I've done in my life and always feel a great sense of pride and accomplishment when I transfer things from the first list to the second one.  You've seen some great performers.  I really like your US city tour idea!

A little bird told me that hotel rooms are really cheap in Chicago over Christmas.  Maybe if we have another kid-free Christmas, we could bucket ourselves over to Chicago!  I've always wanted to see it lit up for Christmas.

Brian: Great idea on the 100+ list on the completed items. I'll have to make that a part of my process.  I suspect that it will help me recall fond memories, and celebrate large and small victories.

Karen:  Wow, that's the best offer I've had in a long time.  Hope my wife... oh wait, you are my wife. :)
We'll have to look into that for 08.

Eric, I love music, I've got a few of those checked off myself :)  I had on my bucket list Paris and got there this summer, next year is Italy.  Wow, there is still so much I want to do, I'd better get started on that list.

I always have a bucket with me to do something fun at the drop of the hat. Maybe I should plan more and not just do what comes to me. Thanks for the thought
