Cactus Jack - the tail with a happy ending in the desert

This poor little puppy was found by a neighbor who heard him whimpering. The Arizona Humane Society was called and while waiting for them to arrive, the good Samaritan neighbor disengaged "Cactus Jack" from the cactus and removed an entire bucketful of cactus spines from this poor pup.

There was such an outpouring of love for this hapless pup, the Humane Society held a "raffle" type drawing with the winner crying as she held "Cactus Jack" in her arms for the first time.

Me, I cried - I'm such a sap.

Here's to a long and safe life - "Cactus Jack."

And, yes, Jane - he made national headlines because he never stopped wagging his tail - still makes me teary eyed to think this little fellow was in so much pain. But, I'm SO glad he's with a loving 2 legged pal.

Poor baby. I am so glad it turned out well.

Our family's Jack Russell got into it with a cholla a few years back. He got a ton of the cholla embedded in his stomach and hips. He had to be put under for several hours to remove all of the spines.

Yet, that didn't seem to stop him from getting into it with a porcupine in Flagstaff the following summer. He was a scrapper! :)
