The Google Algorithm Penquin Attack

By
Education & Training with Retired Executive Director of Education at eXp Non-Licensed

"But I thought "Penquins" were suppose to be cute, fuzzy, warm, and harmless animals?"

Google has changed some of their algorithms for SEO and SERP results.   It's a new algorithm update being referred to as Penguin.  When did all this happen?  Was your site hit?  Has your page(s) gone down in the search engine results?  Has this Penguin been spotted on ActiveRain and some of your blog posts?  If so, you'd want to know about it right?

How can you tell if you were a victim of Google’s Penguin and what can you or should you do if you were?  This is an interesting topic and will definitely leave you with a better understanding of how Google is now ranking and indexing websites and pages and how the Penguin plays into it all.

Does keyword density really matter?  Do meta-tags, titles, and back links really even make a difference anymore?  What if you don’t use keywords, links, SEO techniques, or any other technical traditions of the SEO underworld, will you still show up in Google? How are you suppose to keep up with all this SEO technobabble stuff and changes?

If you’re like me, then you’ll want to know...

Google is getting much smarter, much better, and much more efficient at finding ways and implementing tools and programs that keep the SEO Gods trying and guessing. My advice is to forget all that “gaming & black hat SEO stuff” and just focus on providing your readers, clients, and subscribers with great value-added and useful content.

I like that advice. If everyone had concentrated on good, useful content from the get-go, we wouldn't need all these changes. I'll just be happy if they ever quit delivering "link farms" when I'm looking for content.

Good evening Brad. I chased Google around for years before I realized while I was Google friendly I was loosing customers. Finally I built my site for them and it has been way better, even in the Google Zone.

Hi Brad - Google is always searching for great information.  However, I know some people who have had problems because other people have taken exact replicas of much of their websites and/or posts and they have lost ranking through no fault of their own.

I noticed my page rank slipped about a week ago.  Still looking at what may have happened but since the phone is still ringing which is what's important.

Im sure they do this so people dont keep trying to trick their system. Probably a good idea, but not easy for the individuals that are just trying to get found on Google without spending a lot of money on an SEO team. Thanks for sharing Brad.

Staying focus on providing excellent content, and doing the best you can in being a local expert, is without doubt the best way to go, as agents we get so distracted looking for that magic bullet to score SEO ratings/juice,

Brad, this was very informative and especially the last part about building your brand and how we will be competing more with the bigger brands. One more reason why posting on ActiveRain is smart business.

Trying to understand the ways google ranks pages is, to me at least, an exercise in frustration. I totally  agree with you - if you build interesting content, they will come.

The Google Algorithm Penquin Attack

Good morning Brad -

Excellent information my friend and much appreciated.  I too found my site slipping then talked to a webmaster to find out about the Penguin deal.  It seems when I get things in order well they're not.  Changes are a constant and a full time job just keep on top of them.

Hope you enjoy a great weekend.

John
