Ruffled Feathers Golf Club

Driving home from a listing appointment the other day in Lemont’s Ruffled Feathers subdivision I got to thinking about how Real Estate is much like a game of golf . The professionals hone their craft every day whether it’s a golfer getting up early to hit buckets of balls or a Realtor being in the office early and learning what the Real Estate Market looks like that day because the markets are always moving.

A pro golfer has to know how to play in all types of different climates, hot, rainy, windy and sometimes very cold conditions.  A Realtor has to know how to sell in different markets whether it be the fast moving markets we experienced in 2003 for the distressed markets in 2009.

What golf club a pro chooses for an approach shot today may be different than what he chooses for the same shot tomorrow.  What marketing pieces I used last month may and often are different than what I will use this month.

A good golfer makes adjustments when need be and Realtors need to make adjustments as well. Whatever the adjustments are just be sure to get out there and start swinging, it’s a good life.

No Barb, between Lisa buying me a Kindle at Christmas and dealing with the loss of my Dad, I just felt today was the day to get back in the saddle.  What a nice welcome back gift with the gold star.

Joe, I love what Ron Barnes said in comment #4:

"With golf, you can't turn a Pinto into a Ferrari. No matter how hard I practice I'm never gonna' play in the PGA tour.

However, anyone with the interest, motivation, ethics, desire, work ethic, and so on can become a good Realtor."

Golf and real estate are a lot alike -- very frustrating some days!

Welcome Back, Joe. It's a Great Life! Your analogy with golf and real estate in right on the money. Things can change in a hurry in this industry as well as on the golf course.

Joe, I guess you were being a gentleman for not mentioning the potential to make lots of money in both the game of Golf and the game of Real Estate!

Good to see you here in the Rain again.  I believe I saw a comment that you lost your father.  My deepest regrets for you and your family.  I hope that you are doing well.

It's a great analogy but no matter what club I choose, no matter what weather I play in, and no matter what adjustments I make -  I will never be a good golfer!

Well said.  It's the steady players who see all kinds of markets and have the experience to serve a client in any given circumstance.

well, my golf coach PinHi tells: I don't believe in 'practice makes perfect'

He adds: 'Perfect practice makes perfect'.

:)

Yes, knowing what and when to adjust comes with experience, right?
