It is just Who I Am

By
Real Estate Agent with Better Properties Seattle

Right or Wrong, for Good or Bad, it is just Who I Am.  I didn't "create a persona" for Active Rain, not do I intend to change my persona for it either.

I spend my days representing people who are trying very hard to do the right thing.  I will not represent people with greedy or underhanded motives.  I will not align myself with agents who are trying to "make a sale" instead of representing people well.

It's not a real popular concept apparently.  And yet my heaven is a world where everyone tries very hard to do the right thing and my hell a world where everyone just wants to "follow the money".

There is an exception in my book, and that is helping someone in the industry who is "doing it wrong" to "get it right".  When the little light bulb goes on and an agent realizes that the buyer is paying them as the Buyer Agent...and not the Seller...I am a happy camper.

I know I am in the minority on this and agents want to keep things the way they were before buyer's had rights in the transaction.  But I say, join me, and let's "MOVE  THAT CHEESE"  together.  It's a mindset change...not a procedure change.

Just tell yourself, the buyer is paying me as part of the purchase price and is financing my fee and will be paying me for as long as he has a mortgage.  Appreciate that concept and you will represent your buyer clients better.  Brokers...start TEACHING that to your agents.

We try to do it, but have a lot of resistence, even from our own agents.  Hard to teach people that they are representing people and not selling houses.  When representing sellers it doesn't matter.  But when representing buyers it is tantamount!

Brokers are the ones who really need to hear it, but fight it tooth and nail...just old fashioned.  Buyers are hmmmm whats the word...MARKS to too many.

I had a feeling that might be the answer to that. Resisting change is something people excell at. I agree, too many agents see Buyer's as marks. That is just so bad.

It seems to me with this age of technology that this problem with Buyer's has become worse. I am sooo glad we do not work with Buyer's. I know that probably sounds odd to you, but it is just something we are not interested in doing. We have actually hired an agent to take care of our Buyer leads. Until recently we were just handing the Buyer's to our Realtor friends. No referral, just handing them over. We have been doing that for 12 years now.

So, what my long winded comment is getting to is that when the new agent starts working for our company I am going to sit down with her and explain this concept. It makes sense to me. As far as I can see this mindset with Buyer's agents can only produce a win win situation for all parties to the transaction.

Boy, you sure did get my attention on this one. Ahhh. Out of the box thinking. Wink. Wink.

I write on this topic often and actually the response gets better every time.  I just keep preaching...the rest is up to someone else.

Ardell... o.k here's something to chew on. I'm still waiting for an answer about Pompous Agents.  All I can get is that they're insecure and try to exert  power when they shouldn't (just because they are insecure I guess).   Any suggestions on how to deal with them ?  And, remember I'm not from a  mafia neighborhood background.  LOL

TLW I know I'm missing something reall big here.  I feel like I'm in a freaking video game.  Let's see...the clue is

"Hijack "this" post Ladies where everyone can see it".

How do you bring things to were everyone CAN see it?  Where is that place you would take it to. How do people SEE that which you WANT them to see...

It's like "when the butterfly howls and the wind speaks...Grasshopper"  You know you want to get it...but I just can't get it Master TLW

ARDELL, To know why to come to Wenatchee you only need to read this post.  It's not just why to invest here, but to come here (permanently or to visit).

As for the difference between hiking and walking....  Hmmmm, how can I explain it?  It's like Prune Plums.  Prunes are a variety of plum.  Hiking is the Prune.   Y

Well, I am lost.....no light bulb has gone off above my head!

.....Back to the topic....

When I became a RE agent not so long ago, I did not think about (too many other things to learn and think about) who paid the commission, a very savy friend pointed it out to me not long after I started.  I did not think very hard about what that really meant, and it certainally was not what I was hearing my office!  Then last January I stumbled onto Rain City Guide and began reading Ardell...and (okay now I am going to gush!) and what a eye opener!  There, at RCG,  real estate was a much more dynamic and innovative thing and stuff was happening and changing, and my office...no one's office seemed to know it!  So THANK YOU ARDELL!

....Back once more to the topic....

I think that one reason that agents, brokers, et al don't get it, is that most people in most industries don't get it.   Almost everyone thinks they are paid by their boss, company, district, goverment agency, and so on...NOT true...they are paid by their customers!   I used to teach my new hires (in retail sales) that everyone provides service to someone (the customer)   cashier (customer), teacher (student), doctor (patient), police (community), government employee (taxpayers), President (the people), and that I could help them be successful in anything if they learned who paid them, and how to provide real service to them.

...Stepping awaaay from the topic....Thank you Ardell for opening my eyes, and being my secret internet mentor!

Hi there...

Soooo glad you have chosen to use the initials given to me by the members of Active Rain. :)

I started out as "The Lovely Wife" and evolved to TLW. How that all happened is a very long story.

Would you like to see a Blog Post Hijack or would you like a detailed explanation?

Thanks ARDELL.  You are not alone with your thinking about buyers and commissions.  I made a post in order to clarify my thinking on the topic.  I think it is the same thing that you are saying.  I enjoy your writings and am getting a lot of good ideas from them.  Thanks.

Hi Ardell...

You got lucky...We just happen to have a hijack going on right now. :)

It is here. You must read the comments to see how a hijack occurs.

A hijack in Active Rain is when you allow others to dominate your post. It's kind of a game we play around here.

There are no rules on a hijack that takes place with the consent of the Blogger. Many people here welcome a hijack.

They really are amusing. Sometimes at the end of a day folks just want to mess around. That is normally how a hijack occurs.
