The Community of Cabezon began construction in about 2004 with several national and local builders contributing to the project. Centex, DR Horton and Artistic were the early trail blazers with Pulte, Artistic and Stillbrooke homes jumping in a bit later. There are a select few fully custom homes within the Cabezon subdivision that provide a nice mix of styles. Although Cabezon is near its capacity construction continues in the community with Pulte Homes, DR Horton and others. There are many sub-communities within Cabezon that are defined by that builder and floor plans. Corazon at Cabezon is the popular gated community.

A brand new Rio Rancho hospital has just completed construction just to the South of Cabezon. The Presbyterian Rust Medical Center currently employs over 450 staff members. The 68 bed facility was designed to be easily added onto with future plans of up to 500 beds becoming one of New Mexico's largest. This has and will help the Cabezon community with the demand for housing serving the needs to hospital staff.
The Rio Rancho Public School system serves the Cabezon area. The Cabezon schools would be Maggie Cordova elementary, Lincoln middle and Rio Rancho high school. Private and Charter schools are also available in the area.
Shopping, Groceries and Restaurants are all close by with Cottonwood Mall in Albuquerque being the primary anchor to just about anything needed. Southern Blvd just to the North of Cabezon offers many smaller stores, banks and community services. The intersection of Unser and Southern has become a flurry of commercial activity with Walmart, Walgreens providing the anchor and Chili’s, Five Guys Burgers and many others filling that demand. A new Premiere Cinema recently opened with an all digital 14 screen, 2100 seat facility.
