Happy 4th of July! Festivities surrounding the 4th of July are always such great ways to kick-off summer here in Henderson, KY. There’s a lot to do if you’re planning to stay in town and celebrate with friends, family and neighbors. Horse racing, food, children’s activities, live music, and of course fireworks! The best part of the day happens when the sun goes down and the gorgeous firework display lights up the sky. Here’s my abbreviated guide to how to celebrate the 4th of July in Henderson, KY.

Opening Day at Ellis Park

Celebrate opening day at Ellis Park in Henderson, KY with live Thoroughbred horse racing. Make your wager and grab a bite to eat as you celebrate with family and friends at the Clubhouse or Sky Theatre. The whole family will be pleased as you can get anything from a hotdog to a full meal.

Independence Bank 4th of July Celebration

Independence Bank and the Downtown Henderson Project have so much planned for the 4th. Gather with family and friends along the riverfront in downtown Henderson, KY for food, children’s activities, music, and a great fireworks show at the Independence Bank 4th of July Celebration. Food vendors include Rex’s Barbeque, R&L Concessions, and Independence Bank will be selling ice cream. Children will enjoy a petting zoo and pony rides while adults will enjoy live musical entertainment by Keith Vincent.

Host a BBQ at Home

What better place to celebrate the 4th of July than in your own backyard? If you’ve recently bought a home in Henderson, KY, this is the perfect excuse to throw a housewarming party. Invite family and friends for a BBQ during the day. As night falls, pack everyone up in the car with a picnic blanket and head to downtown Henderson to watch the fireworks display on the Ohio River. Sometimes low-key holidays spent at home are the most memorable.

A Celebration of the American Spirit

There will be a great celebration in Owensboro, KY on the 4th of July as well. Spend the day in English Park where spectators can listen to live folk music followed by a performance by the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra. Fireworks on the Ohio River start at 9:15 so grab your loved ones and some lawn chairs and be prepared to relax!

I hope to see you out and about celebrating the 4th of July on Wednesday! This will be such a good opportunity to meet some of your Henderson, KY neighbors in a lighthearted, fun environment.
