One of the joys of summer starts in mid to late July when all of Lancaster County, PA starts to harvest some of the best fresh produce you've ever eaten ! Agriculturally Lancaster County has been blessed with some of the most fertile quality of soil in the entire USA. And it shows every summer with abundant crops of corn, tomatoes and every form of farm grown Fresh Produce you can imagine ! We also have unlimited options to visit to purchase fresh grown fruit and vegetables .
My favorite is "The Corn Wagon" located roadside just off of Millersville Rd., also known as RT.741,(west of New Danville Pk.). Here you will not only find some of the most scrumptious produce you've ever tasted, but also at prices that are unseen in most markets (for such quality!) Today 13 huge ears of juicy sweetcorn is selling for $2.50. You can purchase 4 medium tomatoes for $1.00,3 large tomatoes for $1.00 or 2 Monster tomatoes for yes just $1.00 ! Just as affordable are their peaches, berries, cherries, eggplant, and peppers just to name a few top sellers.
In all of my visit, which last into early October, I have never gotten a bad ear of corn or tomato. Another feature of the Corn Wagon is the spirit of community. The owners are on site and many from the neighboring communities are stopping in to shop for fresh produce. It is yet one more local experience (and benefit) that makes Lancaster County a great place to live or visit. Remember to bring bags with you, and get ready for a memorable visit !
