PEPCO a utility company in the Washington/Baltimore region is offering its customers to come and pick up your working refrigerator or freezer AND then they will give you $50 as a reward to do so! In addition, if you have at the same time a room air condiitoner that you wish to recycle they will pay you an additional $25.
The older models of refrigerators and freezers can be real energy hogs and can use up to 75% more energy than new ENERGY STAR models. Additionally, by replacing your old refrigerator or freezer you can save as much at $150 a year in future energy savings (savings estimates are from www.energystar.gov).
If you don't live in the PEPCO service area, check with your own utility and see if they are offering any similar programs!
