Haunted hotels are taken very seriously by some people – whether it’s the interest in chasing down spirits or being completely afraid of staying in a hotel that might be considered haunted. For others, especially this time of year, haunted hotels are just plain fun even if they don’t catch a glimpse of a spirit!
Arizona, even Tucson, has popular haunted hotel destinations that people tend to love – here are a few to consider if you are planning a visit to the desert southwest this month:
Hotel Congress in Downtown Tucson. Built in 1919, this is a landmark, historic hotel. It’s very vintage -no televisions, antique iron beds and a working 1930s switchboard. Resident ghosts include a woman in Room 242, a man in an old-fashioned suit who may have been the victim of a 1920s gunfight over a card game, and a recent ghost of a long-time resident named Vince.
Hassayampa Inn, Prescott. Built in 1927, this hotel has many reminders of the past, including a ghost named Faith. Countless guests have reported seeing Faith, who was once a guest at the hotel, crying at the end of a bed, dressed in a pink gown in the hallway, and disappearing in various rooms.
Hotel Monte Vista, Flagstaff. Opened in 1927, many guests have reported seeing a bellboy standing outside of their room. Rumor has it that John Wayne experienced this ghost while he was a guest of the hotel.
Hotel San Carlos, Phoenix. Built in 1928, is rumored to be haunted by a variety of spirits for many years and has been featured on the Travel Channel's "Weird Travels."
