poodle skirtDust off the poodle skirt and those old black and white rock 'n rollers - and go back in time to the fabulous '50's.

The YMCA of Greater Nashua, New Hampshire is hosting a fund-raiser for the entire family this Friday, January 25th from 6-9 p.m.

There will be a disc jockey playing your favorite tunes, a spaghetti dinner and lots of games and contests.

In Motion, the YMCA dance troupe, will also be performing - and you won't want to miss this group.

The sock hop is part of the Strong Kids Campaign, the fund-raising part of the Y Cares program.  Y Care provides funds for memberships, after school care, summer camp and special events.

The price is so affordable:  $5:00 members $8.00 non members;  $10 for member families and $15:00 for non-member families.

The YMCA is located at 17 Prospect in Nashua - and tickets will be available at the door.  Or you can call the YMCA (603 881-7778 or 603 882-2011).

Come on out and enjoy -- don't suffer from cabin fever -- it should be a great evening!

I think with all of the gloom and doom with the sub-prime mess and the economy -- it will be nice to go back to a "simpler" time in the '50's and simply have some fun!

50's parties used to be the theme of preference a while back...I hadn't heard of one in ages!

Not too many people remember the 50's anymore!

Joan, I so wish I was going to be in Nashua this weekend! I love swing dancing and my daughter has the whole fifties outfit. I'm going to tell my sister about this, maybe she can go!

Ginger and Roger ~  We will provide great weather if you can make it to the sock hop!

Joan ~   I think we need to bring back some of the enthusiams and music of the '50s -- you are right there are not that many people who remember the fifties-- I hear there were some great times/and tunes!

Moe  I miss line dancing -- however, I think this is going to be a lot of fun.

Deb~  be sure and tell you sister about this.  It does sound like a great family event and will raise much needed funds for a great community program.

Carole~  How do poodles skirts and the '50's fit in with Feng Shui -- are they just too retro?  Wish you could be here.  My husband came down with the flu and I am not sure I am going to be able to make it :(.

Joan I participated in the our local YMCA's "Strong Kids Campaign".  The Camperships and the After School programs are all worthwhile causes.

George ~  that is so great!  I am glad to see professionals like yourself getting involved with the Strong Kids Campaign.  One of the best ways to make sure our kids are not on the streets and getting into trouble is due to these type of programs.

I would love to see our YMCA do something like this, I know my whole family would go. I've instilled in my kids the love for the 50's music and couldn't wait to get dressed up and go!

Margaret -- It was a great event and everyone had a wonderful time.  I don't have my old poodle skirt --

Todd    I think that is great that your kids love the '50's music.  It does make people feel good!  It is fun to go back in time and enjoy.

Diane- Swing dance is a lot of fun!  I think music and dance are good for everyone!

Been a while since we saw a poodle skirt, Joan. Last time was the show Gary did at a casino here for some years. Was a blast from the past show, and he was the music director and guitar player. Each dancer had a poodle skirt for a segment on that one. Yours though looks vintage.

Also thanks for commenting on our recent piece about buyers and the energizer bunny. Was appreciated.

Ah the poodle skirt Joan! Reminds me of Joanie on Happy Days! Ooh! She has the same name as you! We had 50's days in High School! Now they have 70's days...I think! Sounds like a ton of fun!

Gary~  The event was a great success and everyone had a great time.  I love your energizer bunny blog -- Next time, I will appear as the energizer bunny instead of the poodle (lol)  Thanks for commenting.

Mary~  I think we all need to get back to the simplicity of the '50's now and again.  One of my millienial clients thought this whole thing was so wierd!  Time flies!  I tried to explain it to him, but he probably won't understand~ those were very different times.
