I Had a Skeleton In My Closet~Is it Time to Clean Out Your Closet?

Wow. We tell our clients to do this when their house goes on the market. . . Nothing like doing it yourself so you can have something to share with them on how to get it done. Sounds like you both did a great job!

Definitely great advice.  I pull everything out once a year.  If I haven't worn it in a year, I get rid of it (donate, give, etc).

Kristi, my closet is definitely due  for a purge! I like your year rule and I'm sure there are many items in the closet that will come under that category. Thanks for the encouragement.

Kristi, I must be the only woman alive who has a smaller side than her husband. I recently did this same thing but I only had 5 bags to Goodwill. I think I need to hit my husband's side one more time.

Kristi, I love that you found a skeleton in your closet! Nine bags to Goodwill is admirable!  I have heard people say that if you have not worn something in 6 months, it should be donated.  Although that sounds extreme, it is probably a good idea.  You have inspired me!

Great post Kristi.  Our closets are very easy to clean out.  They are both so tiny that it takes about 4 minutes each.      

Great feeling isn't it? It's a shame that your husband has more shoes than you do - that simply can't happen. Happy shopping!

I do this twice a year, every year! It really is a great feeling to clear out stuff you don't need or want (or what is no longer "you"). I find that cleaning out my closets generates a desire to clean out my office, clean up my data base, etc. Helps clear the mind to focus on what and who's important.

BTW, my husband has WAY more clothes than I do... Is it a sign of new times?..

Against my better judgement, my husband and I are remodeling our master bath so everything HAD to come out of both closets! In order to have an alternative closet to use during the remodel, I had to clean out two closets in the secondary bedrooms.  So, four closets were emptied. One pickup load of miscellaneous and asundry items were taken to Second Mile Mission and what survived went into temporary storage.  During the whole process I kept thinking "why do I own this much stuff that I don't use?"  It was a very cleansing feeling to give it away!  Now, on to the office!

Kristi, I'm in the process of moving the summer clothes out to put in the winter things. I need to do just that. Hmmm.

Kristi - did you remember to paint your closet while everything was out? You may not see those walls again for another few years or so.... ;)
