WordPress Update - heads up

By
Real Estate Agent with HER Realtors

My WP BlogThe Real Estate Bloggers wrote of a just released update: "Heads Up To Bloggers: Wordpress Exploit Hitting Blogs - Update is Now Out. If you are using Wordpress as you blogging engine, and not wordpress.com but self hosting your site, there is an update that needs to be applied ASAP."

The announcement from WordPress dated January 15, 2007.

The Real Estate Bloggers wrote:

"There is a exploit running around where your site could be redirected to anthers site, and since most of you are realtors, this could be damaging to your reputation. A bunch of the SEO bloggers got hit today with it, so this is not something to blow off. "

If my site is hosted I don't have to worry? The host updates it for you?

I woke up one morning and my one week old blog was missing  ...

There is a NEW WordPress Group on Active Rain.

Hopefully people who use "Wordpress as you blogging engine, and not wordpress.com but self hosting your site" saw it ...on the bigger blogs.

I would think most of us on Active Rain w/ a WordPress blog have a blogging host and I hope that means we don't have to worry about this...I am hoping Maureen Francis, Toby Boyce, Jay Thompson and other WP bloggers on Active Rain  will comment and say "don't worry little, know nothing,  wordpress.com user... your blog is safe."  My WP blog is 16 days old and not evolving quickly... I need to learn a lot more about WordPress blogs.

Maureen - I don't use WordPress, but I did just send a link to your post to several friends who do use it.

Huh - That is interesting to say the least.  How does that happen?

Ann I think most mere mortals are using a host...

Christine: It was redirected. I don't know how that happens... whether it was maliscious, a problem with my host, something I did..  I am clueless.

I just took a quick look at WordPress this weekend and was impressed with how easy it was to put a site up. Of course now I want to really get in and customize it and tweak the CSS, but don't know if I'll be able to find the time to do it right. Glad to see there's a group here.

That's for the info.

Ugh...I tried to use Fantastico for the upgrade, but something went wrong.  All I get is a blank screen :( Hopefully, my webhost can fix it.

FYI - I had been using Wordress 2.0.2 and I upgraded via Fantastico...but Fantastico only had version 2.0.6 rather than the most recent 2.0.7 version.  Well, I encountered php issues in 2.0.6 and all I got was a blank page.  So, I had to upgrade to 2.0.7 manually (via Wordpress' upgrade process rather than Fantastico) and I was able to restore my blog.  So if you're using a older version (not 2.0.6) and upgrade, follow Wordpress' 2.0/2.0.1/2/3/4/5 to 2.0.7 instructions and skip 2.0.6.
