The Social Benefits of Home Ownership

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Eagle Ridge Realty / Signature Homes & Estates DRE# 01309169

The California Association of Realtors has put together the following Infographic and requested the Realtors to share it.  What it shows is the Social Benefits of home ownership.

While it is known that home ownership does create stable neighborhoods, it also has many other benefits than those stated here.

Below, are some of those benefits.  It is not representative of all the benefits, but certainly highlights some of the best.  With recent foreclosures disrupting many neighborhoods, as home buyers move into these neighborhoods, there is a stabilizing effect.  Better for society, better for the schools, better for the kids.

It all sounds good but I wonder about the cause and effect. I think it is people who are already engaged who buy houses, not that buying a house magically makes you get involved. I relate it to something like becoming involved in PTA at your child's school. The PTA doesn't make you more involved in the school--you have to  be a caring person in the first place before you join.  So in taking a look at a group of homeowners, you are looking at people who cared enough to save money for a down payment or had a clever Realtor® and lender who found a way to make it happen for them.

great info. I'd like 'borrow' it, if the California Association of Realtors doesn't mind!

I've heard these stats before, but I always feel bad for people reading this, who aren't renting by choice but can't hope to buy a home. I guess that's why I love what Habitat for Humanity does so much.

That's right Gary,

It's all about "Roots". Owning a home is putting down roots; committing to a community.
