Florida's air potato is an invasive that was probably brought here during the slave trade from Africa. Native to sub-Saharan Africa and tropical Asia, the air potato is considered an invasive exotic weed.
Area parks often have containers where visitors to the park can place any air potatoes that are collected during walks. These vines grow as much as 8 inches in a single day and climb up trees and spread through the canopy.
The University of Florida distributes further information on how to combat this invasive plant if you find it on your property.
