Tis the season for being generous, for going that extra mile for someone that needs it a little more than others, for developing holiday traditions, and for spending time at home with loved ones. Why not take this a step further and combine this generous spirit with an attitude of New Year's resolutions..?
Tis the season to Clean House! If you are in a household lucky enough to have acquired a pile of present (small or large,) this is the perfect time to survey the house and make a call to your local Good Will. We try to live by a motto in my household, one item comes in so another goes out. Living in a society of materialism, the things we own can soon own us. Here are a few tips for starting the New Year off fresh and DE-CLUTTERING your home!
- Start in your closet. If you haven't worn it in 3 months and it's not due to the weather, put it in the Good Will pile. You probably won't even know it's gone.
- Next up - Children's closets: If your kids have outgrown it and no one is waiting to grow into it, it's time for a new home. Attic Treasure Thrift Shop is a non profit owned and operated by Assistance League of Atlanta, who runs Operation School Bell. During the fiscal year of 2011-2012, they clothed over 8,000 local school children. I can't think of a better place to donate your children's clothing so other school kids can receive their own, much-needed, newclothing.
- Lastly, The Kitchen: A kitchen without clutter can make you want to spend time in it allowing for creativity and family bonding. Survey your kitchen... When was the last time you used the waffle maker, the George Forman, the juicer..? The Atlanta Mission is happy to take these off your hands along with furniture, electronics, books, etc.
