Earth Day 2013- An everyday celebration in the Pacific Northwest.

By
Industry Observer with Nature As Neighbors

Here's a quick reminder to celebrate the earth this Monday, April 22nd, and everyday.

( Note: Many celebrations will be held Saturday and Sunday April 20th and 21st)

Columbia River Gorge

Life in the Pacific Northwest makes it easy to celebrate Earth Day - everyday. After all, we're surrounded with plenty of reminders. Majestic mountains, pristine water-ways, and in the Spring and Summer months, colorful splashes of wildflowers against a lush green backdrop.

We're lucky in the Pacific Northwest to share the environment with an abundance of fish and wildlife. Let's remember to celebrate these gifts of nature - everyday. After all, there is so much to celebrate - so much to lose.

Earth Day - love it! Every time I'm out hiking, or driving along one of our scenic roads in and around the San Francisco area, or watch the ships and boats in SF Bay - I appreciate it anew.

Good reminder, Debb.  Planting some trees is a good way to celebrate Earth Day.

Hi Roy - you are right. Just going out in nature and breathing the fresh air and giving "thanks," also works for me. Your photos are a pretty nice tribute to the earth's gifts too.

Debb,

Indeed, we should celebrate our Earth, and like you I feel it is so easy to do that here in California.  As I write this comment to you, I am reminded of all the places that I have been on this Earth and all the unique beauty that can be found in each locale, both nationally and internationally...I agree with John, that we should celebrate the Earth on a daily basis.  A

Will - it's always confusing too. The official day for Earth Day is always April 22nd - however, each year, it's celebrated on the weekend, so the date seems to vary.

Joanna - I love that about you. You are a good steward of the earth.

Q-man - I know, I checked it out twice myself. I think we all live in many areas where we can drink in the amazing beauty on a daily basis. Hopefully, it inspires us to take care of the things we can far too easily take for granted.

ALexandra - yes I'm sure it is judging from your photos. The Chesapeake Bay post today also proves that the region there is also surrounded by natural beauty.  Earth Day - everyday.

Hi Debb - Earth Day is an important day to stop and consider our duty of stewardship to the earth and all its creatures. I was in DC for the very first and the 20th anniversary of Earth Day - it was a happy coincidence for both, but I felt fortunate to have been there.

Deb - I love your title referring to celebrating Earth Day every day. We live in such a beautiful place and should really take more time to appreciate it and ... well, nurture our nature. Correct me if I am wrong, but I am thinking that you have Redwood trees where you live?? I am a wee bit obsessed with the documentary series "Planet Earth" that features the Redwoods and explains that many of them alive now were on the earth before Christ was born. My boyfriend and I plan to honeymoon to see the Redwoods when we get hitched some day!

Debb,

When it comes to nature, you're a busy bee and you always promote something good while being productive too!

Your video is outstanding! It's one of the best I've ever seen and you give me the motivation to discover Washington in person. But if I did, I don't think I'd ever want to leave.

I do believe in Earth Day and I wouldn't miss it. Preserving nature is my passion. I'm so glad you have been blessed with such talent. Your voice is as rich as velvet and it makes me listen to your every word. In other words, you're believable!

Hi Dick, my husband grew up in the DC area and remembers the first Earth Day. How cool for both of you old hippies. Lol. Just kidding. I love it.

Erin - the Redwoods are south of here, but they are extraordinary - you have chosen well for the honeymoon. The trip along the Southern Oregon and Northern California coast is beautiful!
