Great Sexpectations:  Gaithersburg Active Aging Expo, Monday, May 6

The City of Gathersburg offers many programs for senior citizens.  This Monday, May 6, 2013, is the time to attend the Annual Active Aging Expo.  Many of us could use a few tips on how to stay safe and be healthy as the years go by. Call some friends and have them attend this event with you.

Use the website link  below for more information.

This is the official notice from the City of Gaithersburg:

The City of Gaithersburg’s 5th Annual Active Aging Expo is a day filled with energy, educational talks, interactive demonstrations, facials, massages, manicures, and preventive screenings.  With a theme of “Aging Sensationally and Safely,” you’ll learn how to protect yourself during an unexpected disaster, how to stay healthy and safe at home, special concerns facing older adults, tips about consumer protection, and more.

The day will feature a variety of speakers covering an array of topics including “Demystifying Aging,” “Connecting in Friendship,” “Eleven Steps to Build a Happy Life,” “Searching Out Maryland Ghosts,” “Great Sexpectations,” and up-to-date information on the fight against diabetes.

Fitness demonstrations include Seated Chair Martial Arts, Hula Hoop Workout, Ageless Grace, and a Bollywood/Tango Fit/Zumba dance sensation.  A performance by the Chinese American Senior Services dancers will conclude the day’s events.

You’ll find all this and more at the free Active Aging Expo on Monday, May 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park, 506 South Frederick Avenue, next to Gaithersburg High School.  The expo is hosted in partnership with the Montgomery Village Foundation, Montgomery County Housing Opportunities Commission, Montgomery County Recreation Department, and Asbury Methodist Village.  Not-for-profit organizations with information on health and wellness as well as businesses that specialize in serving older adults will also be on hand.  Please note that the Gaithersburg Upcounty Senior Center will be closed on May 6 as all staff will be involved in this event.

No registration is necessary.  Just show up and be prepared to change your life.  For information and directions please visit the City of Gaithersburg website at www.gaithersburgmd.gov/activeaging or call 301-258-6380.

Roy, your title is great.  These types of events are needed, because people are living a lot longer and need to have fulfilling lives.  My mom and dad are 91 and still live in their home, with some services coming in.  My husband/partner has a 90 yr. old mom still living in her home, with some services.

That's an interesting topic for an Expo, Roy!  But with our aging population, one that probably will help a great many people.

Roy, Senior activities are very popular and get us older people up and moving. It is a good way to socialize and learn valuable tips that can also save us money.
