ASK AN AMBASSADOR: Tips To Avoid Blogger Burnout!
New blogger or old, sometimes it's difficult to keep the blogging fires stoked and burning bright! Finding new topics, finding time, finding motivation, there are days even the most dedicated bloggers can have one of those MEHHHH!! days and just not want to put fingers to keyboard! So what can you do to avoid blogger burnout? Here's some tips to keep you truckin' along, even when your gas tank is on fumes!
- Write some "timeless" posts and put them in draft, fully finished and ready to post. And by "timeless", we mean posts that don't have expiration dates: generic buyer/seller advice, places in your area, subdivisions, etc.
- Don't let topic ideas escape you. Snap a picture, save a title to post, clip the newspaper article, dictate a voice note to your smartphone, etc., but when you have an idea, get it recorded someplace!
- Write a series of posts. Golf course communities, the steps from first contact to closing table for buyer/sellers, etc. They come right from your experience and you know the steps, so the writing will be easier than starting from scratch.
- Mix it up. Writing the same type post day after day can wear you out. Keep some posts just for fun. While the bulk of your posts need to be consumer directed, there's nothing wrong with writing agent to agent themed posts to and get that comment reinforcement!
- Have a blogging schedule. Starting the 4th or 5th of each month we go on a market report blitz that takes care of us for the next few days. Mid-month we cover distressed properties. EVERY MONTH. That's 8-9 posts a month that we don't have to wake up in the morning with the question "What are we going to write about today?"
- Recycle. Beercans and newspapers aren't the only things that can be recycled. Event posts are prime for an annual tradition. We're going to cover our local festivals EVERY year. New dates, times and details, but you're not starting from scratch.
- Get your topic sources primed and flowing. Newspapers, Facebook newsfeeds, other bloggers, radio, local organizations....they're all steady sources of items you can write about.
- Write FAQ type posts. You know you've had a buyer ask you that question about why do I need preapproval...actually more like 100 buyers!! Write a post that explains why it's important. And why home inspections are important, and why......
- Find what makes your phone ring and blog about it, over and over. There is nothing like the blogger vitamin boost from having a consumer contact that starts with "I found your blog about _________ and I'd like more information!". PROOF THAT BLOGGING WORKS!!! WOOOOO HOOOO!!!
- Find a schedule that works for you. I personally prefer morning, but sometimes it's afternoon, and in an emergency, evening blogging may happen! For you, maybe it's the opposite. Or maybe once or twice a week is your regular. Do what works for you, but keep in mind the more EFFECTIVE blog posts you write, the more digitial breadcrumbs you've left for people to follow back to you!
We hope these tips help keep you on the blogging path! Keep blogging, keep the discipline We've seen enough cases where an intended short sabbatical turns into weeks, turns into months, turns into gone forever. A few can come back after months off, but the reality is most don't. Change your blogging pace to fit your lifestyle and what makes your phone ring.
Keep on Blogging!
