Focusing on What Lies Beneath

By
Real Estate Agent

Last week when I wrote about a trip to San Francisco, I provided photo scenes of the city’s amazing landscape.  There are so many delightful sights in and around San Francisco it can sometimes be difficult to focus in on the finer details, which can escape your eye.

For example, the following first picture is the underbelly of Golden Gate Bridge, as taken from the upper level of Fort Point, which dwells immediately under the south end of the bridge.  The second picture was taken inside the Fort.  It provides a glimpse of the bare bones of the walls inside this 150-year old Fort.

For more information about Fort Point and access to the photos, you can click on “The Secret Beneath The Bridge.”

Hi Myrl, O love photos like this, it really gibes a more indepth understanding of the look of the bridge that we so often take granted. The Fort walls are very well constructed and I look forward to one day visiting it.

I love your second photograph Myrl, there is just something about old brick walls .. intruiging. It makes you wonder what exactly happened behind them 100.. 150 years ago.

Myrl - I've always been curious about the construction of older buildings. A 150 year structure would be a treat to see.

William - So true!  I also remember being in New York City on one of those double decker tour buses.  I was missing certain details, when the tour guide mentioned the ornate gargoyles that trim out many of the buildings.  I think when we sightsee, the mind sometimes has a lot to take in, a sort of sensory overload takes over.  If we aren't careful, we can miss the fine details that can be so fascinating.

Andrea - I'm a brick and mortar kinda gal too.  Today when we build we throw things up, hope it lasts for 20 years, and then tear down.  Older buildings were often to last for centuries. . .I love them!

Wayne - I spent several minutes really looking at the construction under the Golden Gate Bridge.  Its intricacy was beautiful and felt like pure genius.

Jennifer - I'm glad you like the photos and the information.  Sometimes photos need a little information to go along with them, to enlighten the viewer more.

Tom - Fort Point was built in 1861.  The most amazing thing to me was really looking at the spiral granite staircases which lockjawed together so perfectly between the floors on each of the fort's levels.  If you should ever get back to Fort Point, be sure to take that in, if you haven't already!  I'll bet if you were to do a Home Inspection on that 150 year old structure, you'd be amazed at the great condition it is in.  That one section of the wall could use a little cosmetic repair however:-)

Myrl, have you ever thought about going into the travel and hospitality business? You would be great at it, and you could sell your own local trips in Sacramento. There are so many cool places to go within a couple hour drive from here, and I never know where to go. See, I wouldn't have even thought about Sausalito if it wasn't for you! I'll be thinking of you as I turn 61 . . .

Carol - I hope you have a good oportunity to take in the sights San Francisco has to offer.  There's Golden Gate Park, Fisherman's Wharf, China Town, Alcatraz, and countless other sights.  I also like the Palace of Fine Arts.

Sheila - Everytime I think of taking a trip abroad, I have difficulty getting past things I haven't seen, which are in this great country of our's.  Time is the only limitation.

Yolanda - I have a fascination of bridges.  So being under them, and looking at them from another perspective seems natural.

Alexandra - It isn't entirely an accident that I focused in on the underbelly of the Golden Gate Bridge.  As you may have heard the new eastern span of the San Francsico-Oakland Bay Bridge has been suffering failure of of bolts used in the construction.  I agree with you about details.  I'm interested in them too.  Sometimes the devil can be found in the details.

Elizbeth - Perhaps if I were at a younger station in life than I currently am, I'd consider the travel business.  But, I seem to have settled comfortably into this spot in life's road.  I do agree Sacramento is a very fortunate place, with it's own venue of places and events, and those of other places within close proximity.

Dorie - Those pictures gave me pause as to what to title the blog they were going to be put with.  Once decided however, it seemed to fit.

Myrl,

Wayne couldn't have said it better about your photography!

Your photographs always get my attention. You capture the bridge so vividly and you make me think about my Grandfather who was a bridge maker in the early 1900's. Those ARE stunning pictures!!!

Myrl, that first photo sure is interesting.  I took a similar photo once looking up from underneath the Eiffel Tower.  It is one of my favorites.  Don't know what made me decide to look up, but I am glad I did.
