Considered one of Madison’s 1st suburbs, University Heights was planned to be close to the University and Lake Mendota. University Heights has always been the desired place to have a residence for the University, Madison’s professionals and entrepreneurs.  As one of Madison's leading neighborhoods, it features many architecturally important residences including Louis Sullivan's Bradley House, Frank Lloyd Wright's Gilmore House, George Fred Keck's Morehouse House, and many homes by leading Madison architects like Claude and Stark, Alvin Small, and Law, Law and Potter. Many wonderful examples of Queen Anne, prairie style and period revival houses were built in University Heights.  Many fine examples are still standing today.   Besides the amazing architecture University Heights  is also home to some great local shops like the Regent Market Co-op, Stony Hill Antiques, Fine Earth Studio & Gallery and many fantastic restaurants like Lombardino's and the Blue Moon. The neighborhood is also within walking distance of Lake Mendota, Lake Wingra, the Henry Vilas Zoo, hiking and biking trails, the UW Hospital and the UW campus.

On football Saturdays University Heights becomes a sea of Badger red and white.  The neighborhood is quite a lively place. University Heights has a cluster of neighborhood-oriented coffee & retail shops.  Green Park is one of those other neighborhood gathering places: kids playing in the summer and ice skating in the winter that makes living in this neighborhood special. University Height is home to two of the finest public schools in Madison: Randall Elementary and West High Schools. Both schools provide the neighborhood with a fun level of liveliness: kids walking to and from school, homecoming parades, and musicals and theater productions at our doorstep. University Heights is a  walkable and bikeable neighborhood with easy access to UW campus and hospital. The Southwest Bike path goes through the neighborhood and so does  the new campus bike path. University Heights is the center of it all.
