I just heard that because of the limited rain fall and the resulting dry season, the bears are moving to lower elevations in the Sierra Foothills. The bear contacts with humans have tripled this year because of the dry weather. The bears are expected to reach as low as 1,000 feet of elevation. This would include cities like Placerville and Auburn. I live at about 1,300 feet; this could be scary.

Just leave them some snacks on your back porch and they will know you are nice and won't bother you.

Looks like that bear is simply saying please.

Good morning Tom. This is real and very scary indeed. The picture makes clear you don't want to encounter a bear. Me neither.

Tom~ We've had bears in town here as well. Thankfully, none in Parker that I've seen! :-)

Tom, I think it would be a thrill to see a bear in the wild and close by... but not as close as in this photo, that's scary! :-)

I was a joshin' Big Boy.  As a Scoutmaster I know what to do and what not to do around bears.  We have never seen one while camping though.

If you can sleep at night.

(An experienced camper knows what that means...)

It means that an experienced camper has the campsite all ready for night time before going to bed and won't have to get up in the middle of the night if it starts raining or something.
