Traffic sign in San MarcosI shouldn’t make an assumption, but this sign, for me at least, screams CALIFORNIA.

I mean, where else would you find something like this? We DO have a bit of a reputation, you know.

I have passed by this sign in San Marcos several times as I have been out showing property, and finally got around to taking a picture.

It’s not on one of the freeways, where you get 5-6 lanes of traffic screaming down the road in one direction at 80 mph.

Nor is it in an area where there are on-going traffic jams as you get in some stretches of the freeway. In fact it’s on a smaller road heading out of a more congested area of San Marcos.

Guess I am supposed to feel myself calming…sort of like meditating, or perhaps doing a bit of yoga, as I am heading down the road. I suppose it is just one of the oddities of the transportation department.

Sort of reminds me of the signs in Jamaica for the Sleeping Policeman (referring to a speed bump ahead). Yep, there are speed bumps all over this country, but I have yet to see signage referring to one as a sleeping policemen.

Do you have them in your area?

Hi there,

Well did it work, did you feel calmer? LOL! This is hilarious, I have never ever seen anything at all like this anywhere if CA. Guess that's Cal-Trans for you. Maybe you should send it to Jay Leno, he does a funny bit with stupid signs.

Jeff:  I think I remember seeing two traffic signs that said... "Drive Gently" and "Drive Friendly."  We Texas folks can have a calming effect on people, too.  Thanks for sharing.

No, never seen this one and would have no clue what it would mean if I was driving by. I would ask the neighbors, they probably know.

Jeff, this is too funny...just what in the heck does that really mean to a driver?  Usually you would have "slower traffic ahead" or something.  Thanks for sharing:)

Fun idea, Lynda. It was a first for me, too. Someone has a sense of humor I suppose.

Karen - those are nice sentiments for drives. So many are not that way, certainly not where I come from in Boston.

Kaye - could be. San Diego is pretty laid back but this is a novelty.

Neal - the Honey Stop the Car riders are pretty popular here for some reason. See them all the time. Wonder if it works?

Missy - well I suspect it has to do with heading into a more residential area...and the light down the road.

Diane - well, you got me. As I just noted, it could be the light ahead but it's an odd way of pointing this out.

George- good question. Drivers here ARE clamer than they were back East but I doubt it's because of signs like this.

Darci - LOL. Perhaps I need to call the transportation department in town and ask. THere could be some interesting history behind it.

Gena - well either it has to do with the road becoming less congested, people relaxing as they head into a more rural area, or it is the town's clever way of warning people about the light about a 1/2 mile down the road. I suspect it draws some attention but doubt it has much impact.
