Four Types Of Bloggers You Do Not Want To Be Like.

Four Types Of Bloggers You Do Not Want To Be Like.  Yesterday I wrote a blog titled "How Does Your Blog Brand You?", which hopefully caused those who read it to think about how they are being branded by their blogs.  Today I want to also share four types of bloggers the same article, "A Unique Brand Can Be Yours" by Sarelyn Radecke & Gretchen Wegrich, warn to come across as in our blogs

The four examples of blogger are:

  • The Shameful Plugger:  This blogger's posts are basically nothing but spam.  Their blogs are basically ME, ME, ME shameless self-promotion.  They will generally not stop with doing this on their own blogs, but extend it to their comments on the blogs of others.
  • The Online Saboteur:  This blogger will do anything and everything they can to trash their competition, even at the cost of making themselves look bad and losing prospective clients.
  • The Self-Styled Expert:  This blogger presents him or herself as an expert, but can't back-up what they say.  This blogger presumes others will just except what they are saying, and be blinded to the fact they do not know what they are talking about.  This is very likely to happen when a blogger steps outside of their area of expertise and into someone else's.  It quickly becomes clear they do not have any real knowledge of what they are talking about.

NOTE: The above four terms for these bloggers were used in the article, but the explanations are worded in my own words to reflect the examples of these types of bloggers I have witnessed in the 7 years I have been blogging.

I hope these two blogs "How Does Your Blog Brand You?"  and Four Types Of Bloggers You Do Not Want To Be Like, have caused the readers to look closely at how they are being branded by their blogs.  I will close with the same question I closed yesterday's blog with,  is your blog branding you in the way you want to be viewed by others, or is it doing the opposite?  The answer requires honesty with ourselves, and the ability to see our true reflection in our blogging mirror.

Hi George-  it is a shame that people must resort to that..  Ultimately it will effect their business though..

This is quite a question you are asking of use and is one I have been asking myself. I hope to do better. I know I can improve and am never happy enough with what I do... which may be a not to good of a thing. I don't think I am any one of the seven; but improvement is always a good thing.

Great blog subject! Going to read your other stuff!

George- well done.  No one wants a "sales job" shoved down their throats while trying to read a post.  And lately I've seen a lot of copy and pasters who've lifted the whole content from an article.  It tells me only one thing about that person.

George: I like your "self styled expert" one. This happens often in COMMENTS where a blog triggers a gut response that can't possibly be correct. I find that I often look up my state's real estate laws before I comment. Or not.

Being new to blogging, I enjoyed your post.  At this point in my blogging newbie situation..I tend to write about my State...plugging in the beauty of it.  more of a story?  yes, I guess I write stories.  thanks again for making me think.

I've seen every one of these types of bloggers and, thankfully, they don't seem to last long.  The really annoying folks seem to get run out on a rail.

George - you've really done a wonderful job of helping all of us to hone our blogging craft. Sometimes the pressure I would guess builds up and people feel that they have to demonstrate some of the 'no-nos' that you illustrate above. I really appreciate your insight and the points are really good to use as ways to 'proof' the blog before posting. Thanks!

Hi George, thanks for the reminder. Somedays it is really a struggle to come up with an original idea but it's worth the effort.

Read both blog posts and found the both interesting. I think there are times to blog that can be for social too. If you have a following of readers sometimes getting social helps them know you better.

Fortunately, we don't see many of these types in AR. It might be a little difficult if that's all we saw.

George, the worst kind is the copying kind with messy paste involved...I've seen a couple of those and they have ghost writers from what I've seen...good share!

George, the public reading the posts are quick to pick up on the blogging styles you mention and in my opinion see them for what they are...doesn't brand the author in a good light. Perfect post especially for newer bloggers and those who have been around for a while a should know better.

All these types are to be avoided. The copy and paster in the blogs and comments is the most worrisome.

George,

Great set of posts. I think people get so focused on the end goal of what their blog can give them, that they do not stop and take the time to think about how their posting makes their business look. Some great things to think about here. Thanks for posting!
