I was just sitting in my favorite chair staring at some mindless TV while trying to hide from the heat and humidity outside, when I glanced at the clock and realized that it was 4:09p.m. on the first day of the new month and I had not spent any part of this day giving thought to what I would commit to paper, or in this case, the computer.  The day has managed to slip away from me.  It seems like the Summer has done just that, too.  In my mind’s eye, it was just the Fourth of July and a quick check of the calendar tells me that Autumn begins in twenty one days.

This past month we celebrated the Family Trifecta Birthday Gathering.  We commemorated a son-in-law turning 40, a daughter turning 40 something and a husband who would prefer to remain ageless!!  I noticed such a difference in my granddaughters at this birthday party.  Even our little four year old elf has a new sense of maturity.  I realize how quickly time marches on and there are instances where I just want to yell “stop” at the top of my lungs, but I know that the adventure is in what lies ahead.

My Roommate and I returned to one of my favorite places, the Sierra Buttes/Lakes Basin Region of California just a few weeks back.  In the past, this area has always held me spellbound.  I feel a mystical connection with, for lack of a better word, Mother Nature, while I am there.   This year, there was no mystery.   The smoke from the recent wild fires that have ravaged California, blanketed the Lakes Basin.  The sky was grey and the air was difficult to breathe.  We did manage some kayaking time, but each day we succumbed to the smoke and heat and retreated back to Sierra City.  We did spend one morning, without smoke, exploring the historical cemetary and checking out all the homes “For Sale” in Sierra City.  The only one in my price range involved the services of a bulldozer and, if truth be told, I need to be 30 years younger to even consider it.  It sure had a beautiful view of the Sierra Buttes, though.   We did meet the neighbors and their names are the same as mine and my Roomies~~maybe there was some mystery there, after all.  The gentleman kept telling us that he thought the house was a great buy.  It just might be, but not for us.  Did I mention we had car trouble, too??  And, that the computer in the vehicle, at one point, locked us both in the car??  More magic??  No, just a “panic attack” of the computer, we think.

With September here, I am anxiously awaiting some signs of the new season’s impending arrival.  Some of the trees are beginning to turn color, the days are noticeably shorter and my pumpkins are looking darn good.  Savor the changes of Mother Nature.
