Forbes Gives Grade A to Nashville Business

Nashville businessNashville earned its name as Music City with a healthy entertainment industry, but we have much more to offer. Forbes has taken note of the healthy business climate in Nashville, giving the city a grade of “A” due to several factors. The grade is a marked improvement over last year’s solid “B.” The magazine credits the following reasons as the city’s climb to one of the top in the nation.

Hiring

Nashville expanded its jobs by 3.8% last year, which contributes to a 7% improvement since 2008. Since 2001, approximately 112,000 jobs have been added. Such marked growth is undeniable, and one of the many reasons more companies are now looking to call Music City home.

Industries

In addition to entertainment and tourism, Nashville is one of the number one cities for healthcare, IT, education, and manufacturing. Some of the largest healthcare companies in the country are located in Nashville or nearby Franklin, including HCA, IASIS, Cumberland Pharmaceuticals, and CHS. One of these healthcare companies, HealthStream, also made the Forbes list for America’s Best Small Companies.

We’re also home to several top schools in the country, including Vanderbilt University and Belmont University. Tennessee State University, Trevecca Nazarene, Middle Tennessee State University, Lipscomb University, and countless community colleges are also major employers for Middle Tennessee.

As for manufacturing, the city is home to Firestone, Gibson Guitars, Nissan, and Oreck. These businesses are all in addition to Nashville’s bountiful recording, television, publishing, and production companies.

Other Factors

Many credit Tennessee’s lack of income tax as a big reason for business success. Some many not consider, but should, the comfortable cost of living, various shopping possibilities, room for growth and expansion, rich Tennessee history, and friendly residents. Business thrives here because people want to live here.
