GVBOR's Feed the Need Food Drive was a success thanks to the support of the communities and businesses
This year marked the 3rd Annual Greenbrier Valley Board of Realtors® “Feed the Need” food drive in Lewisburg, WV. Through the efforts of the Greenbrier Valley Board of REALTORS® (GVBOR) and the support from our communities and businesses in the collection of non-perishable items, and cash donations, we had another successful food drive for the local food banks. A total of $7,200 was collected for the 2013 GVBOR Feed the Need Food Drive.
If you would like more information about how you can help, contact GVBOR through their Facebook Page.
The GVBOR Food Drive started on May 17, 18, and 19, 2013, with a 3-day Giant Flea Market held at the State Fairgrounds. For this event, the GVBOR received $1,095 in proceeds for the community projects.
Next, the GVBOR participated in the Taste of our Town (TOOT) Festival on October 12, 2013. At their booth, members sold brown beans or vegetable soup with cornbread and cookies. Approximately $500 was made at TOOT.
During the month of November, the Board members participated in food drives located at Krogers in Fairlea and Rainelle, K-Mart, Sav-A-Lot, Cornerstone IGA, Food Lion in White Sulphur Springs and Ashley’s Food Pride in Union.
A cake auction was held at the Board's meeting on Thursday, November 21, for the "Feed the Need" Food Drive. Terri Baker, Realtor®, Home Style Realty & Design, made an assortment of homemade cakes and pies to be auctioned during the meeting. This auction is always a success and Terri's desserts are delicious. Proceeds from the cake auction was $1,015.00.
The food drive ended with a live auction during the Board’s Christmas luncheon on Tuesday, December 3rd. Auction Items donated were by designer Alan Anderson, Anderson Consulting & Design. Alan donated seven items for the auction. Marty Schaerer donated a beautiful Black Onyx Necklace; two flameless candles were donated by The Front Porch; Bella, the Gourmet Shop, donated a basket full of the shop’s goodies; Susan Horst donated two glass hurricane lamps; and Laurie Larson donated a hand-made necklace and earrings. A total of $1,590 was received from the auction.
The Greater Greenbrier Chamber of Commerce presented a $375.00 donation for the Feed the Need food drive. The donation was made possible due to the funds raised by The Greater Greenbrier Chamber of Commerce MEGA Business Showcase and Marketplace event held this past November 7th at the WV State Fair Grounds.
