Many people still assume that when talking about Frisco Football it must be about the 49ers. Well Frisco, Texas has some football of their own. In fact just this past weekend Frisco Texas hosted the NCAA FCS Championship game. This is the championship of NCAA Division I football. While not the Super Bowl, Rose Bowl or any of the other well known "bowls" it is still a great championship that this suburb of Dallas continues to host.
This year the North Dakota State Univeristy Bison were in it again. They won this game the last two years in a row. Sure enough they did not let us down. They did it again and won the champioship by beating Towson University 25-7 this past Saturday, January 4, 2014. The game was held in Toyota Stadium in the heart of Frisco, Texas.
One of the great things about being the host of this game is the support it creates from the locals as well as the visiting football teams. While I unfortunately missed the game due to previous real estate injuries (should be off the injured reserve soon,) you can tell from the coverage it received on ESPN it was a great time.
Frisco will continue to host this game through 2016. However, this year will be the NDSU Bison's coach, Craig Bohl, last year with NDSU. Wyoming has hired him away. That showed some great judgement by WYoming since the NDSU Bisons have not lost a game since October 2012. In fact this year they ran through their schedule with just two wins of less than 15 points. That is not a bad record. Another team without a bad track record is the City of Frisco.
You have to give a lot of respect to the people guiding this not so little suburb (now more than 135,000 residents.) You see 10 years ago this town was less than 50,000 in population and barely had a Starbucks. Now they host a Division I championship. They also will be hosting the Dallas Cowboys Spring Training. So the next time people start talking about Frisco Football you make sure to let them know they must be talking about Frisco Texas because Frisco means football. Besides nobody from California would call it Frisco.
