US Postage is Going Up on January 26, 2014 so Stock Up on Stamps Today

Stock up on the ‘Forever Stamps’ because on Monday January 26, 2014 postage is going up. I am sure most of you are aware of the Forever stamps; they are the ones that are good forever no matter what the postage rates increase to. Currently to mail a regular letter (1 oz) is 46 cents but will be going up to 49 cents to help defray mailing costs by the USPS.

In the past few years, the USPS has had a hard time making a profit and has instead been losing money mainly due to the internet. Fed Ex and UPS offer overnight service and many customers prefer to use these companies instead of the post office. USPS has tried to get Saturday delivery stopped across the nation but it takes an act of Congress to approve it and they have not been able to get it. The USPS employee unions have fought hard to stop managment battle as it will effect their wages and retirements if the service is cut back to 5 days a week instead of 6.

Many stores offer rolls of the Forever stamps at the current price of 46 cents each so get hurry and get them before they are gone . I am going this weekend to buy a few rolls of Forever Stamps at the current price.

Don’t wait until it is too late as 3 cents more per letter is a lot.

Hi Donald,

Glad you saw this as 3cents seem like a large increase. Last year it was just a 1 cent increase. I see this will probably be a yearly increase until the post office prices themselves out of the market.

I hope by the increase, they would also improve their service. They should have addressed that to compete with FedEx and others.

Hi Patty,

I can go to Fed Ex or UPS and not stand in line more than 5 minutes and get a definite delivery date, track it on the internet, and the prices are not much more so why go to the post office. And I never get waited on sooner than 30 minutes at the post office as only a few lines ever open. Tons of people there all the time so makes we wonder why they have a shortage of money. Sometimes their attitude is not very friendly either.
