Way back in 1989 The Naples Philharmonic came to town with welcoming arms. What we lacked in population to build and support a Cultural Center was offset by a relatively small handful of philanthropic investors who had a vision to bring the Arts to Naples. Whether it was music, sculpture, painting, photography or lectures "The Phil" brought World Class exhibits and artists to this city and county for 25 years.
Located in the sprawling development of Pelican Bay sits this Naples icon of wonderful memories and education. It is surprising that there aren't more people that visit and take advantage of the rewards within this lavish facility. I've enjoyed many concerts in Hayes Hall and appreciate its smallish size much more so than larger venues. The museum has exhibited International artists who pique my curiosity and astonish at times with their amazing eye and talents.
On April 19th, 2013, the re-branding became official and Artis-Naples was born. The death of The Phil soured many of the longstanding members. Surprisingly, the pros and cons were evenly matched at almost exactly 50/50. The battle still continues for some but I barely noticed a difference between the two. Growing up around the saying of "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me!" has given me the strength to endure the pains of this change.
Say goodbye Phil and hello Artis, they're one in the same, with Artis-Naples being likened to the matured sibling who has just returned home!
