Don’t park on Snow Emergency Routes in Kentlands

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Montgomery County, Maryland. The warning is in effect from 8 p.m. Wednesday evening until 8 p.m. Thursday evening, February 13, 2014. Expect heavy snow with accumulations from 6 to 10 inches.

This is the notice from the Kentlands Citizens Assembly in regard to parking:

Please do not park on streets marked with "Snow Emergency Routes".  If you are parked on a Snow Emergency Route within the community, you are at risk of being towed by the City of Gaithersburg.

Parking in the alleys is not permitted.  In order for unhindered access by snowplows, all cars parked in the alleys will be towed.

City law requires that you shovel the sidewalks abutting your property within 12 hours of the last snowfall.

In the event of inclement weather and the Clubhouse is closed during business hours, please call 301-948-2071, ext. 106.  Messages will be monitored.  Also, check the Kentlands website at www.kentlandsusa.com for any updates.

Be a good neighbor and lend a hand with snow shoveling. Seniors will appreciate your assistance with clearing sidewalks and steps. And, garage entrances need to be clear in case of a medical emergency.

Hello Roy,  How much snow have you had this year so far?  I have not had a change to use my snow blower yet for my neighbors, just a shovel for a inch or two.

Good morning Roy. We have similar issues here. If there is over two inches of new snow on main roads then they want you to remove your vehicle to plow. It is amazing how good Evanston is about warning people before they tow. They call your home with a recorded message, have sirens going and cops with loud speaks saying move our car or it will be towed.

I am glad to have a garage.

You would think people would be familiar with these laws, but I suppose there will be quite a few 'shocked' to find their vehicles towed.

Thanks so much for your comments. Normally, we do not get enough snow to worry about snow emergency routes. Maryland has declared a state of emergency for what may be the most severe winter storm in several years.

Snow emergency routes are vital in bad weather.  Sometimes the community can do a better job of communicating this to the people who live there I have found.

Roy,  We have these in Colorado as well.  I have seen cars who chose to ignore this warning and they are buried in mountains of snow.  I think the snow plows pile a little extra on just to get their point across.

Roy:  Such a great community service you do relaying the information about the upcoming snow storm ... but also the parking restrictions as well.  Plows and emergency vehicles have to be able to get through to deliver services ...

It is sometimes a good idea to revisit old blogs and reblogs. We might even find some good ideas for new posts.
