I Feel Like I Already Know You
This was a comment made upon first meeting, and shaking the hand of, a relocating buyer some time ago.
It was a wonderful compliment, and in many ways we had already met.
There were posts I had written, and a video or two.
And there was a long string of emails over several weeks responding to questions and providing much needed information about the area this client was moving to, among other matters of interest.
We had never even talked on the phone as email was the preferred communication method for this very busy buyer.
The email conversations we had provided a way to get to know each other in advance of a face to face encounter, and to reach a level of comfort in terms of style and personality, but also gaining a broad perspective on the issues that were particularly important.
Feeling like you already know the other person allow you to quickly move on to the business at hand, since you are already “well acquainted.”
Not everyone feels the same level of comfort meeting via blog posts, video and email for a variety of reasons (generational, habit, personal preference) but they can work so well in this technology age for enabling others to get to know us. Face to face, though, remains the most powerful means to take the relationship to a new level.
Responding quickly, thoroughly, honestly, and offering more information than requested will help others get to know you and your personality.
