Do You Need to Have Flood Insurance?

I love the graphics you have accompanying this post.  You have also provided good information in regards to flood insurance.

If there is any bright side to Biggert-Waters (and believe me, I'm not looking for one), it's that flood insurance is no longer an afterthought.  When I run a pre-approval for any buyer these days I ask about the locations they're considering.  If any are prone to flooding I will take that into consideration and see if their pre-approval could potentially fly with a flood insurance premium.  I think this information is valuable and required because finding out too late you have a $7000 flood insurance requirement --- and yes, I was talking to an insurance agent just yesterday who said this happened to another of his clients --- can mean the difference between success and failure.

When I applied for house insurance, they sent someone out that makes that decision. It didn't matter what I thought either...
