PA Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program

This year, thousands of additional local residents will be eligible for hundreds of dollars in property tax and rent rebates. In 2005, Pennsylvania lawmakers expanded the number of residents eligible for a $650 rebate on their property tax or rent payments. Under the new guidelines, seniors, certain widows or widowers, and disabled residents with an income of less than $34,000 may qualify for a property tax or rent rebate. To apply for a rent rebate, PA residents must submit a completed application form to the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue. More information can be found at the following site: http://www.revenue.state.pa.us/.

Hi Dorothy.

I do not know if you qualify. You really need to go to the site and see what the qualifications are and whether you meet them. For local property taxes and seeing if you can get your assessment reduced is a different matter and you should speak to your realtor and see if they can help you with finding out if the assessment is too high in relation to similar properties in the development.

PA Homeowners urged to apply for property-tax rebates

The deadline to apply for a Property Tax/Rent Rebate program offering rebates to qualified seniors and residents this year is December 31st. The income limit for homeowners has more than doubled for the year to $35,000, or $15,000 for renters. Applicants need only include half of their Social Security, Supplemental Security Income or federal Railroad Retirement Tier 1 benefits when calculating eligibility. The state estimates that 200,000 residents statewide are eligible for a rebate of up to $650 on property taxes and rent but have not yet applied. Residents can contact the Department of Revenue at (888) 789-3900.
