The baseboards near exterior doors can be a good indicator of moisture problem. While it may not yet be dry rotted wood, the swelling and movement of the baseboards can be an early sign of moisture intrusion.
The solution may be a simple matter, or it may be a more complicated leak. Consider having a qualified contractor help in determining the source of the moisture.
Cracks where there shouldn't be cracks are a indicator that something is definitely wrong!
