1. Educate Yourself
Even if it isn't your first time buying a home, it's important to become familiar with the process. Things change from year to year and you could use a refresher. Some questions to ask:
What type of mortgage is best suited to me?
Should I seek a fixed-rate or adjustable-rate morgage?
How quickly are homes selling in the area in which I wish to buy?
What is the largest monthly payment I can comfortably make?
2. Select a Lender & Real Estate Agent
You will be working with these people throughout the process of buying your home, so you may wish to have several options so you can choose the individuals who best fit you.
3. List Your Wants & Needs
Make a list of the things you are looking for in a home. This will help you decide which homes you can eliminate right off the bat. If you need to re-write your list later based on the local market, you can do so as you begin shopping. Your real estate agent will clue you in as to which items on your list you can realistically afford.
