Oh So Close to Home!

By
Real Estate Agent

One of the greater things about living in the Sacramento Region is it doesn’t take much to find colorful destinations, which offer an abundance of experiences.  Within a hundred miles, of home, you can travel to Lake Tahoe, east along California’s scenic highway 50, or travel west and find yourself in San Francisco.

I often refer to these day journeys or weekend specials, as one-tank wonders.  After filling up the car with petrol, I’m off!

Picturesque Napa Wine Country is a mere hour away.  And, dotted on the California map are several California Gold Rush Towns, that allow the mind to escape to raucous wild west days of the past.

The photos below were taken a little further than the 100 mile radius of our city – in Monterey!  As you can see, Monterey’s flippered residents seem to know they are dwelling on very special California ground!

Myrl, this brings back some great memories as we visited Monterey after the NAR Convention last year.  We could see the seals sleeping on the rocks as we ate lunch at the Fishhopper.  You live in a special area to be so close to all these great places to visit!

Hi Myrl, I love these and the experiences you relate. One of the really fantastic things we get from ActiveRain is the showing of the very diversified areas we all call home. From the west to the east and all parts north and south, the variety and the abundance of beauty in our country is extraordinary. I think not only do we have a collection of all the peoples of the world but our land seems to be a composite of the examples of the rest of the world as well.

William - You are absolutely right!  I don't know how many times I've read a localism blog, of a fellow ActiveRainer and said, "I want to go there." America is an amazing canvas of visual treats.

Chris Ann - Yes, the Sea Lions have taken up residency at Fisherman's Wharf.  They all but disappeared for awhile at their abode near Pier 39, but I understand they are back.

Alexandra - We get a lot of bang for the buck on a tankful of gas in California.  Don't we!

Hi Myrl,

These are such terrific close up photos. I took some the other day in Rancho Palos Verdes but they were far away even with my telephoto lens.

These are California sea lions because they have ears, which is one of the characteristics that differentiates them from harbor seals, did you know that, Myrl? I spent my 60th birthday in Monterey and Santa Cruz, and I absolutely love that area. Maybe I'll retire there. But then, in the time it takes to drive from Sacramento, you could fly to Maui, LOL.
