There are many factors in selecting property  for an equestrian farm.  Land is different in each part of the U S.  Of course, some people  think that just any property would work.  Florida land is subject to flooding.  Especially in the summer season when the tropics are producing a lot of rain.  This is not a good thing for our horses and the constant water causes the hoofs to soften and to much moisture causes fugus to grow on the horses leg.  This is called rain rote.  Think about the elevation of the property.  Traveling through Florida one will notice a lot of lakes or ponds.  Most of these are dredged for land fill to elevate land.  Therefore, when thinking of purchasing in Florida, look at the elevations and make sure you are NOT going to be putting your animals in a pond at different times during the year.  Also, there are different kinds of fencing to use.  This should be in consideration of your selection.  The best solution to this flooding problem in Florida, is to make sure that there is suffient drainage ditches around your pasture or paddocks.

Take an example of our Florida land by looking at Sherman Ranches in Okeechobee.  See this farm at http://www.foridahorsepropertyforsale.com .  The developers of this land has taken in consideration the flooding problem and escavated retaining ponds and developed the land much higher to keep it high and try.  Also the first lot, Lot 1, on the right as you enter into the beautiful gates of Sherman Ranches, is for sale at a reduced price of $429,000.  Sherman Ranch is a new equestrian community located outside of the city of Okeechobee
