Bird Watching McCormack Style

Finches, John McCormack, Debbie McCormack

The little Yellow Finches enjoy hanging around our backyard.  They stay year around as long as we keep the Thistle hung out for them.  It’s fun to watch them feed from the bag sometimes as many as 11 at once with two bags we have this summer.  The Black Backs are the males the duller one in the front is a female.  They have blessed our backyard for many years now and as long as we can afford Thistle we’ll keep supplying the food.

John,

That a great photo. I now have warm tears because my grandfather used to raise canaries. There was a time when I had three. I taught them how to sing when I placed the cage on top my piano while I played classical music. I miss them!

To have those beautiful creatures in your back yard feeding year round is a blessing. Thank you for taking good care of the birds I love so much. Finches are so beautiful and they sing like angels!

John, love the photo. Around here people try to coax the hummingbirds. I just do not seem to have any luck here, though I try. Lucky you with so many visitors. Have a nice Sunday, John

Stunning photo, John. I didn't know about feeding them thistle. Our state bird is the willow gold finch, I think it winters in New Mexico.

Good morning John. Yellow finches are very prevalent in the yard. They hang around the Zenia patches. I love to watch them hang upside down and eat the seeds.

BEAUTIFUL SHOT!   And, aren't those birds fun and gorgeous.  Ours, and I imagine yours, too, are very conversational, too.  They keep the kitties fascinated for hours!

Greetings to all.

Sounds like we have a lot of bird watchers and lovers in the Rain.  Good to know.  Thistle is expensive but like we say as long as we can afford to feed the Yellow Finches we will.  It's really cheap home entertainment if you think about it.

The Finches do love nesting in the Red Tip Shrubs, bathing and drinking from our water feature and of course there's always a full course meal hanging in the tree for them at our place.
