Watching Gorillas at L.A. Zoo

I left bright and early this morning for a day trip to the L.A. Zoo with my daughter and her family.  The photo shows two of my granddaughters watching gorillas behind glass.  Actually, it appears Eloise is checking out her new shoes and ignoring the gorilla's antics of swinging from the tree branches.  I'm not a huge fan of zoos, but that's another blog, but I must admit I was impressed with the improvements made since my last trip to said zoo in 1991.

Although the L.A. Zoo lags behind San Diego's, vast improvements have occurred in many of the animals' habitats.  Its smaller size makes it easy to see in a day and there's even a carousel for kids and adults so inclined, and yes, I was inclined.  I rode a giraffe next to my grandson's dolphin.  We just enjoyed the moment and although it would have made a memorable video, Thomas, the wise six year old said,  "Memories we have all our life, but Grammy you might erase a video."

Well said, Thomas.  Thanks for a lovely memory I will have all my life.

Rob - It was hot, but we arrived early and heaven knows it is fun to balance all the work we do with a day of pure fun every now and then.

Such cute kids, Norma. The zoo is such a magical place for kids and adults alike. Haven't been to the LA Zoo but our San Diego zoo is stellar

Hi Norma, The best thing about any zoo is being close enough to go often. Animals are so facinating and when taking photos, capturing their personality is so much fun.

William - I was surprised by how long the animals held their attention.  My daughter has an annual membership so a day at the zoo is always an option

Joan - Most people do not know there is a zoo in LA--it's overshadowed by more famous attractions such as Hollywood, Disneyland and the surf and sand.
