I learned of the Attitude of Gratitude challenge from Kathleen Daniel's first post. The idea is to post 3 things you are thankful for, for 5 days straight. Kathleen heard about it via Laura Cerrano. This is a great idea, whoever came up with it!!!
I'm thrilled to join in and write down my gratitudes for the day. I have found that when I take the time to get quiet and think about the things for which I am grateful, I become a much happier and peaceful person. Whether you do it in prayer, or a quiet contemplative moment, acknowledging your gratitudes can be life changing!
So here are my gratitudes for today:
- I am so thankful for my 3 children. My last one just flew the coop last weekend, and left for his freshman year at college. Being an empty nester is scary and unsettling to me, but I will adjust! I am so very thankful that I have 3 healthy, happy and lovable kids. Since I went through 3 miscarriages, I appreciate even more the miracles that they are!
- I am thankful for my freedom. As the world sinks further into chaos and unimaginable evil, I am thankful that I am free to worship, speak my mind, get an education, vote and go wherever I want to go. I know I'm guilty of taking our freedom for granted sometimes, but it is vital that we acknowledge how important it is.
- I am thankful for my parents. As they are aging and facing the inevitable health issues, I am reminded that their time with me is limited. My father has been diagnosed with Alzheimers, and watching his decline, and my mother's inability to deal with it, is heartbreaking. They have been loving, giving parents, and they allowed me to have an independent childhood where I made mistakes and learned from them. You know, the stay-away-all-day-and-don't-come-home-till-supper kind of independence.
