Not something to admit, but I am not much of a reader. I loved to read when I was younger - but over the years - it seems that either life got in the way or when I had free time - I chose to be outside doing something more active. In fact, the last known book I bought was, "What to Expect When You Are Expecting." I got halfway through it, tossed it aside and decided to just "live it and see what happens."
When possible, I also try and support "local" things - finding a balance between chain stores vs. local ones. I suppose finding a balance between reading and not reading wouldn't be a bad thing either! So, 14 years after buying my last book, a Tucson Police Captain, who worked with my husband, went to high school with him many years ago, and who is also a good friend, surprised me with this announcement, "I published a book - will you buy it?"
A book? Buy it? That means, reading. But of course I will buy it to support him, and yesterday, I took some time away from being outside and began reading it.
I wasn't sure about the book, the theme, etc., and it took a little bit to adjust to the whole "sitting still, paying attention and focusing" part of reading - but after that - something strange happened - I actually got interested and read half the book last night.
Not sure if it was the book, or that I happen to know the author, or that I know some about police life - and perhaps this isn't the best book for more advanced or seasoned readers - but one thing for sure - supporting local - whether it's produce, restaurants - or books - is a good thing.
The book is available on Amazon - you can purchase hard-copy or Kindle.
