Well Baby Boomers Outlive There

Retirements? This Is Very Sobering

Today, America is blessed with about $21.7 trillion dollars according to the Investment Company Institute. But with 78 million Boomers hitting their retirement years will that be enough? That's the big question.

When our parents retired, "The Greatest Generation", the average lifespan was 65 years old. Today many Boomers are living into their mid to late 80's in relatively healthy condition. There are more Centurions than ever before in history.

While all of this sounds good what does it really mean for our economy and that 21.7 trillion dollars? Are Boomers saving enough money today to carry them through their "Golden Years" without having to be a burden to society or worse our families?

How many Boomers are going back to work if they can find it? How many Boomers are working as Walmart greeters or for Home Depot to make ends meet? How many Boomers will really be able to realize the quality of retirement our parents did?

We have much to be concerned about to day as a society overall. How will we take care of those aging Boomers who didn't plan wisely for their retirement or lost their nest egg in the '07 Meltdown?

Or who acquire a debilitating or degenerating health condition that far exceeds their health insurance and then starts draining, possibly by exponential number, our already ailing and failing social welfare systems?

Will Baby Boomers Outlive Their Retirements. If so who will pic up the slack? What will be their quality of life? Where and how will they live?

The best Retired Brokers !!!!

I personally think that most Boomers are in a lot of trouble...  It will be interesting to see how it all plays out... Might be a good idea to start teaching the kids how to prepare for their golden years...

John, That $21 Trillion is held mostly by a very few people. Less than five per cent of the population has enough in their retirement plans to carry them through the retirement years.

Bill Roberts I'm well aware of that Bill. I've been tracking this whole debacle for years for obvious reasons. It's a pretty scary thought in any event. Not sure how our society is going to deal with millions of derelick, indigent and perhaps even ailing demographic. Hope it won't be a Logan's Run.

Actually John, I think that they will just have to work until they die. That is the new Baby Boomer Retirement Plan.

Bill Roberts with the proviso that they stay healthy. That's my biggest concern. Taxing our welfare system will put the BB's in peril I think,
